Altoona, PA - Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity and Rep. Andrea Verobish (R-79) announced today that nearly $77,000 in unclaimed property has been returned to constituents across the 79th legislative district, following a recent event held at Rep. Verobish's office in Altoona, Blair County.
"Events like this are a great reminder that unclaimed property is not just a number - it is real money that belongs to Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth. I'm grateful to Rep. Verobish for opening her office to Treasury and helping us return nearly $77,000 to Pennsylvanians throughout the 79th District."
Since taking office in 2021, Treasurer Garrity has returned more than $1.2 billion in unclaimed property, including a record of over $334 million last year.
"This is exactly what constituent service should look like - helping people get their own money back. There are hardworking families, seniors, businesses and organizations right here in our community who may have money sitting in the state's unclaimed property system without even realizing it. I'm proud that we were able to bring Treasury directly into our community and help put nearly $77,000 back into the pockets of the people who earned it."
Treasury is working to return more than $5 billion to its rightful owners, including over $18 million available to residents in Blair County. More than one in 10 Pennsylvanians have unclaimed property, and the average claim is worth over $1,000.
Unclaimed property includes things like dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, forgotten stocks and more. It can also include physical assets, such as collectible coins, jewelry and savings bonds, that most often come to Treasury as the contents of safe deposit boxes.
Anyone can search Treasury's online database at any time by visiting searchandclaimpa.gov. Pennsylvanians who have lived in other states can also search for property at MissingMoney.com for money possibly waiting across the country.
