Temporary Overnight Closure of I 516 Over Ogeechee Road; Traffic to Continue via Ramp Crossing
Savannah, GA- Weather permitting, Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) construction partners will implement a temporary overnight closure of I-516 at US 80/SR 25/Ogeechee Road for the ITS and CV Implementation Phase 2 Project. The lane closures are necessary to safely separate traffic from construction work to install a new concrete ITS pole.

The Interstate ITS and CV Implementation Project, Phases 1-3 will expand network infrastructure along the interstate system to improve traffic safety, operations, and reliability. Once complete, the projects will provide a robust interstate communication network for Georgia DOT's NaviGAtor™ expansion and ability to deploy CV technology.

The Phase 2 projects are located along:
  • I-16 from I-75 in Macon east approximately 166 miles to Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Savannah
  • I-516 near Savannah from Montgomery Street north approximately 7 miles to SR 25/Main Street
  • I-20 from Panola Road near Atlanta east approximately 42 miles to Madison, Georgia

TEMPORARY DETOUR:

Tuesday, June 30, through Thursday, July 2, 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. (Nightly)
  • Nightly closure of I-516 eastbound at Exit 3 with traffic detoured off the interstate using the off-ramp, crossing over Ogeechee Road and merging back onto I-516 eastbound via the adjacent on-ramp

Motorists are advised to expect delays and drive with caution through the work zone.

The projects will provide the Design-Build services to install network infrastructure and a reliable statewide ITS communication network, capable of supporting future connected/autonomous vehicles technologies. The principal objective of the project is to accommodate Georgia DOT's existing and future ITS communication needs, including the expansion of NaviGAtor™ traffic management network along the following Georgia interstate locations:

Advisory: Exact time may change due to weather conditions. There may be intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
