As an AdventHealth team member's father prepares to return home from rehabilitation after a long medical journey, members of our Surgery and Global Missions teams came together to help make his home more accessible.
Following multiple surgeries and a lengthy hospital stay, he was nearing the next step in his recovery: coming home.
Teams spent a full day measuring, cutting and building ramps to give him safer access to his house and outbuilding.
The project included a new front porch and ramp at the home's entrance as well as a ramp to the outbuilding.
Team members also scraped, caulked and painted the windows.
"I'm feeling so blessed to work for a hospital and organization where our mission for extending the healing ministry of Christ goes beyond our walls," said surgery manager Jarrett Terpersta. "My incredible surgery team prepped a house for someone to return home from rehab. New ramp to shed, new front porch and ramp to enter house, windows all scraped, caulked and painted. What an incredible full day."
The day reflected the care AdventHealth's team members show one another.
Like family, they stepped in to support a colleague and her family, putting their skills and compassion to work beyond hospital walls.
"When we saw the shape dad would be in after his surgery, I (sent a message) to our AdventHealth maintenance leaders asking if it was possible for the hospital to help with building dad a ramp," team member Destiny Sumpter said. "All they said back was 'What's the address?' I am so thankful to work for an organization that truly lives out its mission."
