Majority Whip Santucci Highlights Highway Safety Improvement Program Awardees in the Lake to River Region

Majority Whip Santucci (R-Niles) today announced that Trumbull, Mahoning, and Columbiana Counties were awarded funding through the Ohio Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Improvement Program.

"These investments represent a major win for the Lake to River Region," said Santucci. "By securing funding for critical Highway Safety projects across Trumbull, Mahoning, and Columbiana counties, we are strengthening regional connectivity and safety. While my office does not administer these funds, I am encouraged to see continued investment in our region. The awarded projects will help ensure our region continues moving forward with the infrastructure necessary to support jobs, development, and quality of life."

In House Bill 54 - Ohio's Transportation Budget, the General Assembly appropriated $185 million in funding each year for continued success of the program.

Through this award cycle, the Lake to River Region, encompassing Ashtabula, Trumbull, Mahoning, and Columbia counties, emerged as a major beneficiary, receiving more than $8.3 million for critical highway safety improvements. Trumbull County will see an investment of $3.2 million for interchange improvements at State Route 193 and Niles Vienna Road, enhancing safety and traffic flow in the area. Mahoning County will see funds used to install a single-lane roundabout at Palmyra Road in Ellsworth. Additionally, the City of East Liverpool in Columbiana County was awarded $1.9 million for reconstructing 2.5 miles in East Liverpool, including signs, pavement markings, sidewalks, multi-use paths, pedestrian crossings, and improvements.
