Lincoln City Libraries (LCL) invites the community to a free reception for an art installation by Lincoln native Jevon Woods from 10:15 a.m. to noon Friday, April 24, at Gere Branch Library, 2400 S. 56th St.

Woods' piece, entitled "The Rally," reflects generations of youth-led impact from the 1963 Birmingham Children's March to present-day efforts around Lincoln's annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Youth Rally. The work, using acrylic, ink, alcohol ink and marker, invites viewers to learn from the past and to walk together to answer a call to move forward in equity, civility, justice and love.

The event will begin with a special Youth Rally Planning Committee and Cadre Storytime, open to preschool students. Remarks by Woods, City Council Member Bennie Shobe, Ryan Wieber, LCL Director, and others will follow at 11 a.m. Attendees will then walk together to the mural for an unveiling and placard reading led by participating scholars, echoing the installation's theme of collective movement and reflection. Refreshments will follow.

"Placing this work in the library creates space for the community to encounter it together," said Peter Ferguson, Youth Rally Adult Advisor. "It connects the story of the Rally and its scholar leaders with a place dedicated to learning, reflection and shared experience."
