FWC approves wildlife trapping proposed rule amendments for advertising

At this week's Commission meeting in Belle Glade, Commissioners of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) voted to approve proposed amendments to wildlife trapping rules for advertising in the Florida Administrative Register. The rule proposals are expected to be brought back before the Commission at a future meeting for a final hearing.

These rule changes would address allowed trap types, design specifications, placement, check times and disposition of captured wildlife. The changes would more closely align with the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies' best management practices, which ensure that trapping is humane, species-specific and effective.

With a few exceptions, these changes would require an annual, no-cost permit and training for anyone using traps to capture wildlife. All registered trappers would also be required to submit an annual report about their trapping activities.
