Published: Jul 15, 2026

Contra Costa County - Caltrans Construction will begin emergency roadway settlement repairs on southbound I-680 in Pleasant Hill just south of Willow Pass Road and just before the Monument Boulevard off-ramp; following storm damage that caused pavement settlement, embankment erosion, and damage to the highway drainage system. Beginning Monday, July 20, 2026, Caltrans will implement overnight closures from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Monday through Saturday, as crews begin compaction grouting operations.

Closure Schedule

  • Dates: Monday, July 20, 2026, through Friday, September 4, 2026 (tentative completion date)
  • Days: Monday through Saturday
  • Time: 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM

Closures Include

  • Southbound I-680 Right shoulder, Lane #4 and Lane #5
  • Willow Pass Road on-ramp to southbound I-680

Compaction grouting is the first phase of the emergency repair project and will stabilize the roadway foundation beneath the settled pavement.

The overall project includes:

  • Compaction grouting to stabilize the roadway foundation
  • Pavement repairs
  • Dike replacement
  • Drainage system repairs
  • Slope reconstruction and stabilization
  • Permanent erosion control improvements

These repairs are necessary to restore the structural integrity of the roadway and prevent additional settlement and erosion.

Traffic Control Measures:

Changeable message signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. Motorists are advised to expect delays, prepare to merge and allow for extra travel time. Please drive with caution through the construction zone. Slow for the Cone Zone.
