2026 State of the City Celebrates Community

West Sacramento's momentum was on full display during the annual State of the City Address hosted by the West Sacramento Chamber of Commerce.

On Thursday, May 21, 2026, Mayor Martha Guerrero highlighted major accomplishments from the past year while sharing an exciting look ahead at the projects, programs, and investments shaping the future of the city.

A focus of the address was the City's continued commitment to affordable housing and homelessness solutions. Mayor Guerrero celebrated the City securing the largest grant in West Sacramento history - $43 million for the Grand Gateway project - which will help expand housing opportunities. She addressed the recent Point-in-Time (PIT) Homeless Count, noting the City's expanded shelter capacity and ongoing efforts to connect individuals with services and support.

Looking ahead, Guerrero announced the planned creation of the Department of Homeless Response and Support, designed to streamline resources and strengthen crisis intervention services to address homelessness.

The mayor highlighted the impact of voter-approved Measure O funding, which is helping improve emergency response times, accelerate road improvement projects, and expand City staffing, including the addition of the new Roads Crew in Public Works, new Police and Fire Department public safety positions, and additional parks maintenance personnel. Public Works and Capital Projects teams were also recognized for completing milestone improvements, including the State Streets Rehabilitation Project and the award-winning Traffic Safety & Signal Improvement Project.

West Sacramento's Economic Development & Housing Department received recognition for its continued support of local businesses and economic growth. Over the past year, the department has awarded more than $1 million in grants to 35 West Sacramento small businesses and helped establish a Tourism Marketing District to further promote West Sacramento as a destination for visitors, businesses, and investment.

The program concluded with the presentation of the Civic Leadership Awards, honoring community partners making a lasting impact in West Sacramento.
