UW to Mark Constitution Day with Benjamin Franklin Speaker

The University of Wyoming annually encourages students, faculty and staff to observe Constitution Day, the federal observance that recognizes the ratification of the U.S. Constitution.

Constitution Day is observed each year on Sept. 17, the day the U.S. Constitutional Convention signed the nation's founding document in 1787. Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison and George Washington were among the 39 delegates from the original 13 colonies who signed the Constitution.

To help mark Constitution Day, UW will host a presentation by Colin Ramsey, an emeritus professor of English at Appalachian State University, at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in Room 506 of Coe Library.

The presentation titled "Would Ben Franklin Tweet That?" will focus on what Franklin can teach us about political disagreement, public discourse, civic association and our own intensely polarized digital age.
