JEFFERSON CITY , M o . - The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking community input on a project to replace the northbound bridge deck (driving surface) on Missouri Route 163 (Providence Road) over Hinkson Creek in Columbia . Built in 1968, the supporting structures remain in good condition, but the northbound driving surface is in poor condition and needs replacement . Construction is expected in 2027 .
Providence Road is expected to remain open during construction, with northbound traffic being narrowed to one lane. During construction of the northbound bridge over Hinkson Creek, traffic will be shifted onto the southbound bridge which will carry two lanes of southbound traffic and one lane in northbound traffic .
As part of the design process, MoDOT is seeking community input and has multiple ways by which interested parties can provide feedback during the open comment period, May 21 - June 11 , 202 6 . By commenting, questioning, and providing community insight, the public's input is essential in helping to guide the design and construction process.
MoDOT asks all motorists to work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down and moving over in work zones. Motorists are advised to use extra caution through work zones, obey all traffic signs, and avoid any distractions.
