NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Today, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) released a fact sheet contrasting Republicans' plan to lower health care costs with Democrats' proposal to line the pockets of big insurance companies and fund pandemic-era health care subsidies riddled with waste, fraud, and abuse. A recent Government Accountability Office report found that the pandemic-era health care subsidies backed by Democrats are a 'mecca for fraud,' including approved applications with false or missing records and nearly 100,000 duplicate Social Security numbers enrolled in the program. "Republicans want to put money back in taxpayers' pockets and empower patients while Democrats are pushing to line the pockets of insurance companies and force taxpayers to foot the bill for fraud," said Senator Blackburn. "Instead of expanding health savings accounts, Democrats want American taxpayers to spend $83 billion to extend pandemic-era subsidies that are riddled with waste, fraud, and abuse, including more than 6.4 million improper enrollees and 100,000 duplicate Social Security numbers."
