Update: Firefighters Respond to Structure Fire at St. Catherine’s Indian School

The City's Public Utilities Department is on scene working to maintain adequate water pressure at nearby hydrants to support firefighting operations. New Mexico Gas Company is also assisting at the scene, and the Santa Fe County Fire Department is providing mutual aid.

The City asks residents in the downtown area to temporarily limit water use while crews continue to battle the fire. Conserving water will help maintain adequate water pressure for firefighters as they work to contain the incident and protect surrounding structures.

The response includes five fire engines, one heavy rescue truck, multiple ambulances, and additional support vehicles. A total of 27 firefighters are actively engaged in suppression efforts, pumping approximately 2,800 gallons of water per minute.

Firefighters are using a defensive strategy known as "surround and drown" to help contain the fire and protect surrounding structures while working to bring the incident under control.

A suspect is in custody. No additional information is available at this time.
