Rep. Stewart Champions Pickaway County Adoption of Local Option Homestead Tax Exemption

State Representative Brian Stewart (R-Ashville) today announced that Pickaway County is one of the first counties in the state to adopt the Local Option Homestead Tax Exemption, a provision included in House Bill 96 - Ohio's State Operating Budget.

The Local Option Homestead Tax Exemption that was passed in House Bill 96, allows a board of county commissioners to offer a new property tax exemption that piggybacks off the state homestead exemption.

The Pickaway County Commissioners heard and adopted the Local Option Homestead Tax Exemption on Tuesday, October 14th, which will provide over $1.1 million in property tax relief for the county and an average of $349 per eligible home in Pickaway County.

"I was proud to fight for meaningful property tax relief in the state budget process as Chairman of the Finance Committee, including the first-ever local, permissive homestead exemption option for counties," said Rep. Stewart. "I commend my friends Commissioner Wippel, Commissioner Henson, and Commissioner Scherer for their leadership in using this new tool, which provides over $1.1 million of property relief for Pickaway County's senior citizens, disabled veterans, and other homestead recipients. The Ohio House of Representatives is committed to providing Ohioans property tax relief and I am grateful to work with the Pickaway County Board of Commissioners to achieve such meaningful local savings."
