ND250 Commission Calls on North Dakotans to Volunteer as Part of “America Gives”

On this National Day of Service and Remembrance, the ND250 Commission is calling on North Dakotans to give back and to pledge their service in 2026 as part of America250 when the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary of independence.

As part of America Gives, a national initiative of America250, ND250 is joining other states to make 2026 the largest year of service in American history. According to a recent survey by WalletHub, Americans volunteer more than 4.1 billion hours per year in addition to their charitable giving. North Dakota ranks 15th in the nation for their combined volunteerism and charitable giving.

America Gives is a shared effort reminding citizens of the work it took to build our country, our states, and our communities, along with the responsibility we share in sustaining them.

"This is our chance to put North Dakota on the map as a state that works together and gives back," said Bill Peterson, State Historical Society of North Dakota director and ND250 commission chair. "Whether it's volunteering for the first time, teaching young people the value of giving back, or challenging yourself to find a new place to make an impact, every act of service counts. Together, we can make the Semiquincentennial a record-setting year of giving while also raising up our communities and the people and organizations they support."
