LOS ANGELES - Today, Secretary Scott Turner and Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. called out California's failed policies that have ignited its drug-fueled homelessness crisis and reiterated their commitment to cut off funding for organizations abusing taxpayer dollars to expand the homeless industrial complex instead of delivering real results.

Despite receiving more federal homelessness funding than any other jurisdiction in the nation, LA remains the epicenter of the nation's homelessness crisis. In the last decade, HUD funding to LA nearly tripled, yet homelessness in LA doubled.

In June, Secretary Turner took action to freeze funding to LAHSA, the lead agency for LA's homelessness response, which has received over $1 billion taxpayer dollars since 2013 despite its record of mismanagement, fraud, and abuse.

"Today, we witnessed the heartbreaking realities of LA's drug-fueled homelessness, and enough is enough," said Secretary Turner. "Despite receiving billions in federal funding, homelessness in California has skyrocketed. Organizations like LAHSA that abuse taxpayer dollars to put its self-interests ahead of the vulnerable Americans it is supposed to serve will be held accountable. Under the leadership of President Trump and Vice President Vance, we are rooting out corruption and ensuring that those who need care are truly getting it. The days of funding corrupt failure are over. The Trump administration will not enable the Homeless Industrial Complex."

"We cannot solve homelessness by funding systems that perpetuate it," said Secretary Kennedy. "We will fund programs that get people off the streets, into treatment and recovery, and back to self-sufficiency. We will demand results, hold failing programs accountable, and fund what works."
