President Stubb: A sustainable solution requires strong security guarantees for Ukraine

President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb participated in a Coalition of the Willing summit on Tuesday 6 January 2026 in Paris. The meeting was hosted by President of France Emmanuel Macron.

The topics on the agenda were the Coalition's support for Ukraine, negotiations on a peace proposal, and the security guarantees to be provided to Ukraine. According to President Stubb, the starting point was to ensure that Europe and the United States are committed to broad and strong security guarantees for Ukraine.

"A security guarantee is a significant commitment. Security guarantees mean supporting Ukraine in its defence war, rebuilding its forces during a ceasefire, and providing assistance if the conflict flares up again", President Stubb stated.

The President emphasized that the United States' commitment to security guarantees for Ukraine was the most important outcome of the meeting.

In addition, the Coalition of the Willing plans to establish a multinational force to support Ukraine:

"Finland will participate in one form or another. All decisions will be prepared carefully and in accordance with national processes."
