Diplomatic relations were officially established between the Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Singapore today, through the signature of a joint communiqué by Ms Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Monaco's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, and Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Singapore's Minister for Foreign Affairs.
The ceremony was witnessed by H.S.H. Prince Albert II at the Permanent Mission of Singapore to the United Nations in New York, on the margins of the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The signing of this communiqué formalises the active cooperation that already exists between the two countries, particularly within multilateral bodies. Monaco and Singapore share an approach to diplomacy that is based on dialogue, cooperation and upholding multilateralism.
Despite their size, these two countries demonstrate that States can play a significant role in global governance when they come together in support of shared values and through constructive diplomacy.
The two ministers expressed their hope that formalising the relationship will help to further bolster the friendly, collaborative links between Monaco and Singapore in the years to come.
