Defence Secretary Chairs 8th Project Steering Committee Meeting on Landslide Risk Reduction

The 8th Project Steering Committee (PSC) Meeting of the Reduction of Landslide Vulnerability by Mitigation Measures Project (RLVMMP), implemented by the National Building Research Institute (NBRI), was held today (25 June) at the Ministry of Defence.

Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), in his capacity as Chairman of the Project Steering Committee, presided over the meeting.

The session brought together representatives of key government stakeholder institutions involved in the implementation and oversight of the project. Discussions focused on reviewing the progress achieved under the RLVMMP, addressing current challenges and identifying measures to further strengthen landslide risk reduction initiatives across vulnerable areas of the country.

The participants engaged in constructive deliberations and shared valuable insights aimed at enhancing the effectiveness, sustainability and long-term impact of landslide mitigation measures. The meeting reaffirmed the Government's commitment to safeguarding communities and infrastructure through proactive disaster risk reduction and resilience-building efforts.
