A Major Crimes Unit investigation into a series of commercial break-ins, vehicle thefts, and property crimes throughout Winnipeg and the RM of Headingley has resulted in the arrest of one suspect and an outstanding warrant for a second. Property valued at approximately $140,000 was stolen during the incidents.
Between April 20 and June 28, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to 13 incidents involving stolen licence plates, stolen vehicles, commercial break-ins, and thefts throughout Winnipeg and the RM of Headingley. Investigators determined that stolen vehicles and stolen licence plates were used during many of the offences, and that the suspects frequently wore disguises to conceal their identities. Property valued at approximately $140,000 was stolen, including trailers, lawn equipment, mechanical equipment, motorcycles, bicycles, and a vehicle.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigations and identified two suspects believed to be involved, Justin Andrew HANSON (35) and Jesse Troy LAFRENIERE (41). Both suspects were wearing Electronic Monitoring Bracelets during the incidents.
On August 4, 2026, officers located HANSON operating a vehicle in the 100 block of Clonard Avenue and attempted a traffic stop to take him into custody. HANSON fled at a high rate of speed before abandoning the vehicle on foot and was arrested shortly after.
Later that day, Investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 100 block of Stranmillis Avenue and the 100 block of Strauss Drive. Property stolen during a break in, as well as a rifle, ammunition, and lock cutter were seized.
HANSON (35) has been charged with 22 criminal code charges ranging from break and enter, theft, failing to comply with court orders, weapons charges, and possession of stolen property. He was detained in custody.
An arrest warrant has been issued for 41-year-old Jesse Troy LAFRENIERE (see photo below).
