SEDRO WOOLLEY, Wash. - The Perry Fire remains active with hot and dry weather conditions including a Heat Advisory and Red Flag conditions with backing, uphill runs, and short crown runs, mainly in the northern aspect of the fire. The Perry Fire is estimated at 1,309 acres. Yesterday the Type-1 Whiskeytown Wildland Fire Module prepped and completed structure protection at Little Beaver and Silver Creek boat-in campgrounds. Steep, difficult, and cliffy terrain pose significant threats to firefighter safety which limits direct handline work. Fire managers continue a full suppression strategy with aerial delivered water.
Smoke conditions continue to limit visibility across the fire area which can hamper aerial support. Firefighters continue to work along the Little Beaver Trail and assess park infrastructure for structure protection. Two Type-3 helicopters will continue aerial delivered water operations to the fire area as conditions and visibility safely allow. A Type-2 helicopter arrives tomorrow to aid in a full suppression strategy. Visitors recreating on Ross Lake should keep away from aerial resources, such as helicopters, utilizing the lake as a water source for firefighting suppression efforts.
A Heat Advisory continues throughout the area until 5 pm today with a Red Flag Warning through 9 pm due to unseasonably hot, dry, and unstable conditions. Hot temperatures remain through the weekend with a chance of thunderstorms.
The Thunder Fire has been called out and no smoke has been seen on the Big Beaver Fire for the past several days; both fires continue to be monitored.
Smoke remains in the area due to active fires across the region. Take precautions when recreating outdoors when heavy smoke is present. Individuals who are sensitive to poor air quality or those with respiratory problems may want to limit outdoor activities. Review smoke forecasts at https://fire.airnow.gov.
Drones are prohibited in the area during emergency fire response. If you fly, we can't! If there are drone incursions, all helicopter flights will be grounded. Keep drones away from wildfires.
Visitors should check the park Fire Closures page prior to a visit for up-to-date trail and camp closure information. Closures are in place to protect the public.
Fire restrictions remain in effect in all areas of the park complex. Campfires are banned in all portions of North Cascades National Park Service Complex - North Cascades National Park, Ross Lake National Recreation Area, and Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. This includes all National Park Service lands and campgrounds along State Route 20 as well as Hozomeen and the entire Stehekin Valley.
