February 21, Consul General Zhang Zhen attended the Red Lantern Festival in Cebu City, joined by Mayor Nestor Archival, city councilors, and members of the Pilipino-Chinese community. The festival brought together thousands of local residents to celebrate the Chinese New Year, reflecting the strong ties and enduring friendship between Chinese and Cebuano.
In her remarks, Consul General Zhang highlighted the cultural significance of the festival and the longstanding contributions of the Filipino-Chinese community to local society. She spoke highly of Cebu City for its openness, inclusivity, and resilience in the face of challenges. Drawing on the symbolic meaning of the Year of the Horse, she extended warm greetings and wishes to all.
