What Could Send GE Vernova Stock Higher

GE Vernova (GEV) stock closed on October 23, 2026, 30.6% below its high close of June 30. If you own it, you want to know what could lift the shares again. Power, which builds gas turbines, is GE Vernova's largest business, making it easy to overlook a smaller segment that supplies equipment for the electric grid. So what does GE Vernova's grid business sell, and is it already winning orders?

GE Vernova's Grid Business Is Winning Data Center Orders

The segment is indeed winning orders, and data centers are a fast-growing source of them. Reported by GE Vernova as Electrification, the business sells substation equipment, switchgear and transformers. Management said on the July 22, 2026 call that the unit booked $2.7 billion of data center orders in the second quarter of fiscal 2026. This brought its data center orders for the first half of 2026 to over $5 billion, more than double the total for all of 2025.

Orders continue to outpace sales. The equipment backlog of orders signed but not yet delivered reached $41 billion at the end of June, up 69% from a year earlier. This total includes the backlog of Prolec GE, an acquired business. Later in 2026, management also plans to deliver a prototype solid-state transformer to its first hyperscaler, a company that runs very large data centers.

Electrification Is GE Vernova's Fastest-Growing Business

Electrification generated $9.64 billion of revenue in fiscal 2025, compared with $38.1 billion for GE Vernova as a whole. Its sales grew 18.4% in fiscal 2024 and accelerated to a 27.7% pace in fiscal 2025. Over fiscal 2025, Power grew 9.0% while Wind's sales fell 6.1%, making Electrification the fastest-growing unit of the three.

Electrification is more than a side business. On the July call, management said it sees the long-cycle electric power industry in the early stages of a multi-decade growth opportunity. Even after its fall since June, GE Vernova stock still returned 41.8% over the twelve months to October 23, 2026, compared with 15.1% for the S&P 500.

How Much Of GE Vernova's Grid Growth Was Bought?

Electrification revenue rose 68% in the second quarter when including the acquired business Prolec GE, but grew only 29% without it. Prolec alone accounted for nearly $900 million of revenue in that quarter. This 29% is the growth GE Vernova built on its own. Once Prolec is in both years' figures, reported growth no longer gets a lift from the deal, so this is the pace to watch.

When GE Vernova reports later in October 2026, the number to watch is Electrification revenue, which management guided to $3.8 billion to $4 billion for the third quarter.

Does This Mean You Should Act On GEV?

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices - the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
