Huang Guo meets with president of Global Health at Gates Foundation

Huang Guo, commissioner of China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), met with a delegation led by Trevor Mundel, president of Global Health at the Gates Foundation, on Sept 15 in Beijing.

Huang briefed the delegation on recent progress in China's drug regulatory work. He said that, in line with the implementation of national 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), China's NMPA is further deepening regulatory reform, optimizing the review and approval of innovative drugs and medicines in urgent clinical need, and advancing the modern drug regulation that is scientific, law-based and up to international standards, so as to foster pharmaceutical innovation, ensure drug safety and promote high-quality development.

He expressed appreciation for the Gates Foundation's long-standing commitment to global poverty reduction, health, development and philanthropic causes, and thanked the foundation for its active support for drug regulatory reform through earlier cooperation projects with the administration.

He also expressed the hope that the two sides will build on their existing cooperation and advance it to a higher level, working together to advance global health and development, address future challenges and protect and promote public health.

Mundel lauded the progress China has made in drug regulatory reform and affirmed the positive outcomes of the cooperation between the Gates Foundation and the NMPA. He said he looked forward to establishing a more long-term and stable partnership with the NMPA and to continuing to support capacity building for China's drug regulatory system and global health cooperation.

Heads of relevant departments and affiliated institutions of the NMPA were also present.
