Young Parliamentarians of CIS Discuss AI, Chess Diplomacy, and International Internships at Tavricheskiy Palace

The 26th meeting of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS was held in St. Petersburg, bringing together young parliamentarians, senators, and legislative representatives from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Members of the Youth Council of the General Confederation of Trade Unions also participated.

Member of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology and Environmental Protection Tabyldy Muratbekov was elected Coordinator of the Youth Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS.

The central topic of the meeting was the impact of artificial intelligence on young people and its role in state youth policy. Participants discussed the opportunities AI creates for education, professional development, and public administration, while also highlighting risks such as data protection issues, misinformation, and digital dependency. The assembly emphasized the importance of developing digital skills, AI literacy, and critical thinking among young people, as well as involving youth in the creation and implementation of technological solutions. Participants agreed to continue exchanging best practices and proposed dedicating the next CIS Youth Interparliamentary Forum to innovation, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation.

Member of the Social Policy Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Russian chess player and grandmaster Sergey Karjakin presented the "Chess Diplomacy" project as a tool for international youth cooperation. He noted that memoranda of cooperation have been signed with more than twenty chess federations across the CIS, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Participants supported further development of the initiative, including the possibility of organizing international youth chess tournaments under the auspices of the Assembly.

Director of the Institute of Youth Policy and International Relations of MIREA - Russian Technological University Dmitry Bunkin reported on the development of recommendations aimed at improving national youth policy legislation across CIS countries. Participants also supported the creation of an online version of the Glossary of Youth Policy Terms and Concepts, which would be regularly updated to reflect emerging trends and challenges.

Chairman of the Youth Council of the General Confederation of Trade Unions Kairat Toroev delivered a report on the role of international internships. Young parliamentarians stressed the need for a common framework regulating this area and proposed developing recommendations to improve national legislation on international youth internships across CIS Member Nations.

The meeting concluded with consideration of nominations for the IPA CIS honorary badge "For contribution to International Youth Cooperation".
