Tax Day 2026 is tomorrow! If you've already filed your taxes, great! If you haven't, here are a few simple, last-minute tips to make filing easier:
April 15 is the deadline for filing and paying these four (4) taxes:
-
Business Income & Receipts Tax (BIRT),
-
Net Profits Tax (NPT),
-
School Income Tax (SIT), and
-
Earnings Tax
Ensure you file and pay by April 15 to avoid additional charges. You may be granted a filing extension, but there's no extension for paying Philadelphia taxes. All payments must be made by April 15. Contact us to set up a payment plan if you are unable to pay by the deadline.
You can find out information about filing extensions in this blog post.
Don't forget the tax rates
Rates for Philadelphia taxes can change year to year. Filing online ensures that you are completing the correct form with the correct tax rates. For Tax Year 2025:
-
The School Income Tax (SIT) rate is 3.740%. This tax is only applicable to Philadelphia residents. You should file and pay the School Income Tax if you received stock, bond, or S-Corp distributions. You won't get a payment voucher or prefilled SIT return in the mail. But you're still required to file and pay this tax - online is best!
-
If you did business in Philadelphia, you must file and pay the Business Income & Receipts Tax (BIRT) and the Net Profits Tax (NPT) if your business is not incorporated. The BIRT rate on net profit income is 5.71% and 1.410 mills on gross receipts.
-
The NPT rate is 3.74% for residents and 3.43% for non-residents. You must file and pay this tax if you made a profit as an individual, regardless of business profits. Remember, once you pay the BIRT, you can apply a 60% credit of the amount of tax paid on the Net Income portion of the BIRT toward your NPT.
-
If you lived or worked in Philly and your employer didn't collect and pay the City's Wage Tax for you, you must file and pay the Earnings Tax. The tax rates are 3.74% for residents and 3.43% for non-residents.
