Poll Workers Needed Statewide for June 9 Primary Election

COLUMBIA, S.C. (May 5, 2026) - The South Carolina Election Commission (SEC), working alongside county election offices, is urging residents across the state to serve as poll workers for the June 9 Statewide Primary, as several counties are currently experiencing poll worker shortages.

Poll workers are essential to a successful Election Day and play a critical role in the democratic process. Responsibilities include checking in voters, assisting with ballot procedures and helping polling places run smoothly. This work helps ensure every vote counts and that elections across South Carolina are carried out accurately and in a way voters can trust. Poll workers are also compensated for their time and service, while gaining valuable firsthand experience in the election process.

"Behind every successful election is a dedicated team of citizens who give their time to serve their neighbors and communities," said Conway Belangia, SEC Executive Director. "Without poll workers, elections in South Carolina simply could not happen. They are essential to making sure every voter has the opportunity to cast a fair, safe and secure ballot."

Individuals interested in becoming poll workers, members of our statewide team, are encouraged to contact their county voter registration and elections office for details on requirements, training, and compensation.
