PR No. 173 MoFEPT Strengthens Foundational Learning Through Innovative Teacher Aid K

As part of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training's (MoFEPT) ongoing efforts to strengthen foundational learning for out-of-school children, Secretary MoFEPT, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, visited a National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) Non-Formal Education (NFE) Centre in Bhara Kahu.

During the visit, the Secretary observed classroom teaching activities and interacted with teacher Ms. Maryam Imran and 57 enrolled students to evaluate the effective use of the recently distributed Non-Formal Education Teacher Aid Kits in daily learning practices. The interaction focused on how these kits are being integrated into classroom instruction to promote interactive, activity-based learning in a multigrade environment.

The NFE Teacher Aid Kits are part of a major initiative under which MoFEPT has distributed 3,450 kits to non-formal education teachers across Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Designed specifically for non-formal and accelerated learning classrooms, the kits aim to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy through hands-on, participatory, and child-centered teaching approaches.

Each kit contains 17 educational items, including pocket boards, flashcards, character masks, Snake and Ladder games, handmade puppets, English and Urdu alphabet flashcards, word-making puzzles, number cards, math jigsaw puzzles, magic charts, science charts and experiment materials, and unit tens cards. These teaching resources support engaging and inclusive classroom instruction through storytelling, educational games, visual learning, role play, and collaborative learning activities, particularly in multigrade settings where a single teacher works with learners of varying ages and learning levels simultaneously.

The Secretary appreciated the dedication and efforts of non-formal education teachers working at the community level and emphasized the importance of the effective use of learning materials to further improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

To support implementation, MoFEPT has also recently conducted ICT-based orientation sessions for all NFE teachers on the effective use of Teacher Aid Kits and activity-based teaching methodologies.

The Secretary was accompanied during the visit by Director General NCHD, Mr. Ali Asghar, along with members of the NCHD team.
