Greg Walters to direct revamped unit

Greg Walters, a Navy veteran with more than 28 years of experience in facilities management, has been named vice president of Facilities Services and Campus Planning at the University of Delaware, announced Carol Kissal, interim executive vice president of finance and administration.

Walters' appointment begins June 1.

"Greg is a proven leader who brings a wealth of deep knowledge and experience in higher education and other sectors to this critical role for UD," Kissal said. "UD's campus is a true gem, and I know that Gregory has the skills and vision to help guide our community's purposeful growth well into the future."

Walters said he is honored to be joining the University of Delaware at this important moment for the institution.

"UD's students, faculty and staff need top-notch facilities to do their best work, so I'm excited to lead the dedicated team of people who clearly care so much about this amazing campus," Walters said.

Walters will direct the Facilities Services and Campus Planning (FSCP) unit, which had previously been named Facilities, Real Estate and Auxiliary Services. The unit's name has changed to more closely align with its function, Kissal said.

FSCP consists of Facilities Operations, Campus and Enterprise Capital Planning and Delivery, and the Office of Real Estate and Development. FSCP is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the University's physical plant, which includes all academic, administrative, residential and conference facilities, and it oversees all minor and major renovations and construction projects on campus.

Walters also led operations for the Town of Arlington, Massachusetts; the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth; Springfield College, and Loomis Chaffee School.

Walters served as an executive officer in the Navy Submarine Force, working aboard the USS San Francisco (SSN 711) and the USS Hartford (SSN 768), as well as in the Naval Submarine School.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Union College and a master's in engineering management from Old Dominion University.
