Years of Service: 22
Title: EH&S Manager
Chris Otto is an EH&S Manager who has worked in many parts of Rinchem's business during his 22 years with the company. His previous roles include warehouse, cleanroom, driver, Inventory and Shipping Specialist, assistant manager, operations manager, and internal audit.
Chris joined Rinchem when Ashland Chemical sold the division he worked in and Rinchem took over the local services. Since then, each role has given Chris a different view of the work and an opportunity to take on something new.
For Chris, the best part of working at Rinchem is the people. He believes a great team will support you while also challenging you to improve.
One of Chris's personal highlights was working with a motivated employee who wanted to learn, grow, and move into management. Chris supported that development, and the employee reached that goal.
Chris's own career has followed a similar pattern of learning and growth. By staying open to opportunities, he has built experience across operations, transportation, quality, safety, and auditing.
The lesson Chris will carry with him is to stay open to opportunities and challenge yourself to take on something new.
"Keep learning, challenge yourself, and don't be afraid to take on something new."
His advice for someone starting in chemical logistics is to take the time to learn about the chemicals around them. Chris recommends choosing a product at your location, reading its Safety Data Sheet, and learning more about the material.
That kind of curiosity helps people understand the work more fully and reinforces the importance of handling each product with the right knowledge and care.

A: Chris collects Smurfs.
Q: What music gets him through a long day?
A: Music from the 1920s and 1930s, classic country, and classic rock.

As Rinchem celebrates 50 years, Chris's career shows what can come from staying open to new opportunities. His experience across many roles, commitment to learning, and willingness to help others grow have shaped 22 years of service.
