Sioux City Transit is pleased to announce the launch of MyRide Sioux City, a new Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) system powered by Masabi, a leader in enterprise-grade FPaaS fare collection for public transit. Using either the MyRide Sioux City Smart Card or mobile app, riders can now tap to pay their fare when boarding, making journeys faster, easier, and more convenient than ever before.
The new mobile fare payment system ensures riders never pay more than the cost of an unlimited pass without the need to purchase one in advance, making public transit more affordable and flexible. Riders may purchase tickets through the MyRide Sioux City app, available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play, or funds can also be added at the dispatch office located in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Transportation Center, 501 Nebraska Street, or online through the new web portal at sioux-city.org/MyRide.
To support the launch, 29 new validators have been installed across the Sioux City Transit fleet. The launch of MyRide Sioux City reflects the agency's commitment to improving access to transit in a region where many residents rely on cars. With the new system, Sioux City Transit hopes to attract new riders, including students at Morningside University, Briar Cliff University, and Western Iowa Tech Community College, by offering a more modern, flexible and cost-effective way to travel.
"MyRide Sioux City is about making the city's public transit network more accessible, convenient, and affordable for everyone in our community," said Transit Operations Manager Jason Allen. "Whether riders choose to use the smart card or the mobile app, they'll benefit from faster boarding, simple fare payment, and automatic savings through fare capping. We're excited to bring these innovations to Sioux City, opening our network for more people to take advantage of the services we provide."
"Account-Based Ticketing gives riders the freedom and flexibility to pay their way, while delivering agencies the tools to modernize their services and reduce reliance on cash," said Brian Zanghi, CEO of Masabi. "We are proud to partner with Sioux City Transit on the launch of MyRide Sioux City, helping to provide a convenient and affordable transit experience for the community."
