Home » House Appropriators Advance HUD FY27 Funding Bill
Overall, the bill proposes deeply harmful cuts to housing assistance, including key programs serving older adults and the aging services workforce.
The House Appropriations Committee on June 4,2026, advanced its proposed cuts to funding levels for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Fiscal Year 2027.
Overall, the bill proposes deeply harmful cuts to housing assistance, including key programs serving older adults and the aging services workforce. Among other programs, the cuts target public housing, homelessness assistance, Housing Choice Vouchers, Fair Housing enforcement, and the HOME Investment Partnerships Program, which LeadingAge members often pair with the Low Income Housing Tax Credit.
The partisan funding bill advanced to the House floor on a 34 to 27 vote following lengthy debate. During the committee markup, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle offered amendments to adjust the text originally advanced by the subcommittee, including Democratic amendments that would have increased funding to address the country's housing crisis.
Two notable amendments were adopted: a Republican amendment that would limit federal funding to areas following certain immigration policies, and a Democratic amendment that would prohibit HUD's recent proposal to limit rental assistance to households with mixed immigration statuses.
Next, the House will vote on the proposal; the Senate has yet to release its version of the funding bill.
