Join us to discuss the topic of Fountain Valley becoming a Charter City on September 30 at 6 p.m. at the Council Chambers at City Hall (10200 Slater Ave.) or October 18 at 1 p.m. at the Recreation Center (16400 Brookhurst St.). The City will host two separate town Halls, which will cover the same topic.
The City of Fountain Valley is currently a General Law City, which means it operates under the rules set by California State Law. The powers and authority for a General Law City must be consistent with what is explicitly permitted by the state. However, the city is considering becoming a Charter City. This would allow it to operate under a voter-approved charter, which acts as a local constitution. A charter, if approved by the voters, would allow the city greater authority and flexibility over its own local affairs.
