Statewide - Secretary of Transportation Announces Emergency Diesel Fuel Relief Action

Delaware Secretary of Transportation Shanté Hastings and Secretary of Agriculture Don Clifton announced temporary relief for agricultural and forestry haulers impacted by the current global diesel fuel supply emergency, resulting in record-high prices.

As agricultural and forestry vehicles may travel between Maryland and Delaware, Secretary Hastings announced that Delaware enforcement agents will honor Maryland's temporary waiver, allowing qualifying agricultural and forestry haulers to use dyed diesel fuel without fuel inspection penalties or associated fees. It is the intent of Secretary Hastings to continue to provide relief for the duration of its applicability in Maryland. Should Maryland rescind or modify this waiver, this action will be re-evaluated by the state.

Dyed diesel fuel indicates that the fuel is exempt from highway excise taxes and is normally not permitted for use in vehicles operating on public roadways. The temporary action is intended to provide flexibility to agricultural and forestry operations during the current fuel supply disruption and ensure that essential goods and services can continue moving throughout the region.
