SIIA Response to DOE RFI on Workforce Development for the Genesis Mission

The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) submitted comments to the Department of Energy (DOE) in response to its Request for Information on mobilizing talent and building an AI-ready workforce for the Genesis Mission. The letter expresses strong support for the initiative and emphasizes the importance of coordinated partnerships among government, industry, universities, and national laboratories to accelerate AI-enabled scientific discovery and strengthen U.S. competitiveness.

SIIA recommends expanding multi-stakeholder research collaborations, developing regional innovation hubs anchored by national laboratories, and supporting interdisciplinary education pathways that combine AI with scientific and engineering disciplines. The association also highlights the role of industry in providing cloud infrastructure, datasets, mentorship, and applied research opportunities, while encouraging programs such as fellowships, co-ops, and rotational training that expose students to both public- and private-sector career paths.
