On December 18, 2025, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a DUI and driver license checkpoint and issued 28 citations.
On December 18, 2025, the Berkeley Police Department conducted a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and driver license checkpoint on Shattuck Avenue at Parker Street.
994 drivers were contacted at the checkpoint. 24 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed, 4 drivers were cited for other violations discovered by officers. An additional 28 drivers were evaluated for DUI and released.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
