Duquesne Light Company Continues Storm Restoration Efforts
PITTSBURGH - Duquesne Light Company (DLC) crews continue working around the clock to restore power following severe storms that caused significant damage across Allegheny and Beaver counties Thursday evening. Since yesterday, crews have restored service to more than 40,000 customers, reducing outages from a peak of approximately 60,000 customers to about 18,000 customers Friday morning. High winds exceeding 70 mph knocked down trees, power lines and other equipment throughout the company's service territory.
To support restoration efforts and accelerate power restoration for remaining customers, approximately 240 mutual assistance personnel from New York, Florida, Alabama and Quebec are en route to assist DLC crews and contractors.
The National Weather Service is forecasting another round of severe weather that could impact the region beginning Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, and continuing into the evening, including the potential for damaging winds and localized flooding. Hazardous weather conditions could temporarily delay power restoration efforts, as the safety of crews and the public remains the top priority.
DLC understands the disruption outages can cause and appreciates customers' patience as crews navigate extensive storm damage and complete repairs safely.
Safety Reminders for the Public
- Call 9-1-1 for emergency medical situations.
- Do not attempt to remove fallen trees, branches or other vegetation that may be in contact with power lines. Wait until DLC crews are able to make the area safe to proceed and always assume nearby lines are energized.
- Report downed wires or hazardous situations to DLC at 888-393-7000.
- Report outages through DLC's mobile app, online outage center or by calling 888-393-7100.
- Use flashlights or battery-operated lanterns for emergency lighting and avoid using candles.
- Operate generators only in well-ventilated outdoor areas away from buildings.
- Check on elderly and vulnerable family members, friends and neighbors who may need assistance.
