C.O.P.S. Young Adult Survivors Visit with FLETC

GLYNCO, GA - On July 29, 2026, 116 young adult survivors from Concerns of Police Survivors, known as C.O.P.S., visited the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia, for a day of hands-on learning, connection, and shared support.

Each year, young adults from across the United States come together through C.O.P.S. to connect with others who understand the grief and challenges that come with losing a law enforcement loved one in the line of duty. The annual gathering provides survivors with an opportunity to build relationships, find encouragement, and take part in meaningful experiences alongside peers with similar life experiences.

During their visit to FLETC Glynco, the young adult survivors participated in several training demonstrations and interactive activities. At the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Bomb Range, participants witnessed controlled explosions and learned about the specialized training conducted for law enforcement personnel. They also visited FLETC's Use of Force Complex, where they gained insight into decision-making scenarios and the challenges officers may face in the field.

The group ended the day at FLETC's main auditorium and memorial site, where they added their parents' names to several mobile memorial tiles created specifically for the visit. FLETC displays the tiles throughout the year in the Physical Techniques Building. Instructors pause at the location to educate students about the children of fallen officers and remind them of the survivors left behind when their loved ones make the ultimate sacrifice. We must never forget.

FLETC Director Benjamine C. Huffman and FLETC's senior staff spent time with the students before they departed FLETC. Director Huffman welcomed the group and offered remarks highlighting FLETC's mission and training environment. During a brief question-and-answer session, Director Huffman was asked about his favorite part of serving as Director. He said he enjoys "being a part of the FLETC learning environment and the impact it makes" and recognizing the "impressive talents" of FLETC's law enforcement instructors who make it all possible.

The visit offered participants a unique look at the training environment that supports law enforcement professionals across the country. More importantly, it provided an opportunity for young survivors to spend time together, strengthen bonds, and honor the legacy of their loved ones through a shared experience.

FLETC is honored to welcome the C.O.P.S. young adult survivors every year and support an event that brings connection, understanding, and encouragement to families of fallen law enforcement officers.

A component of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, FLETC's mission is to train and support the training of federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers and international partners that are responsible for enforcing laws, treaties, and regulations within the United States and abroad.
