WORKING VISIT OF THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

TO THE BRICS MINISTERS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS MEETING

NEW DELHI, REPUBLIC OF INDIA

14-15 MAY 2026

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan will undertake a Working Visit to New Delhi, Republic of India on 14 and 15 May 2026 to attend the BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting. The Meeting is one of the key preparatory platforms ahead of the BRICS Leaders' Summit, scheduled for 12 to 13 September 2026.

The theme of India's 2026 BRICS Chairmanship is "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)", anchored on the overarching framework of "Humanity First". These priorities are consistent with Malaysia's national interests, particularly in enhancing economic resilience, advancing digital transformation and technological innovation, as well as promoting sustainable development.

During the Meeting, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to deliver Malaysia's national interventions, where he will underscore Malaysia's commitment to strengthening multilateralism, advancing the interests of the Global South, and supporting reforms in global governance to ensure a more inclusive and equitable international system.

Malaysia will also take the opportunity to share its perspectives on key global issues, including trade, global supply chains, energy security, digitalisation and climate action. In line with its aspiration to become a full BRICS member, Malaysia will continue to engage constructively with BRICS to deepen cooperation across priority sectors.

On the margins of the Meeting, the Foreign Minister will also hold meetings with his counterparts to discuss issues of mutual concern.

The Foreign Minister's participation in this Meeting reflects Malaysia's commitment to a principled, balanced, and pragmatic foreign policy, while reinforcing its role as a proactive middle power in shaping a more inclusive, stable, and sustainable global order.
