More roads set to be resurfaced through Paving the Way

Paving the Way continues improving roads across the community after the Macon-Bibb County Commission approved a contract with Professional Paving Services, LLC, to resurface additional streets.

On Tuesday, July 21, the Commission unanimously approved a $3,280,877.09 contract with the Macon-based company to complete asphalt paving and resurfacing on roads throughout the county. The project will be funded through 2026 Local Road Assistance (LRA) Grant funds and 2018 SPLOST Road Work funds.

The work is part of Macon-Bibb's ongoing Paving the Way program, which focuses on improving the condition, safety, and longevity of local roads. The streets selected for resurfacing were identified as priorities based on the County's road improvement planning process.

"This investment allows us to keep building on the progress we've made through Paving the Way," said Mayor Lester Miller. "Every road we resurface makes it safer and easier for people to travel throughout our community, and we're committed to continuing that work in neighborhoods across Macon-Bibb."

The project was awarded through a competitive bidding process. Seven companies submitted bids, with Professional Paving Services, LLC, selected as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.

Since work began in the Summer of 2025, 981segments of 402 roads have been repaved for a total of 132.3 miles.

In addition to resurfacing roads, the County recently expanded the Paving the Way program to include pedestrian infrastructure. Earlier this year, Macon-Bibb hired Citylogix to conduct a comprehensive assessment of 351 miles of sidewalks and 9,263 ADA accessibility ramps throughout the county.

Using specialized e-scooters equipped with high-resolution cameras, GPS technology, and mobile data collection tools, Citylogix is identifying sidewalk issues such as cracks, uneven surfaces, and tree root damage. The company is currently about 54% complete with its sidewalk analysis and has finished evaluating 100% of the county's accessibility ramps.

The completed assessment will provide a detailed inventory of sidewalk conditions and help County leaders prioritize future repairs and investments, just as Citylogix's previous analysis of approximately 1,100 miles of County-owned roads has helped guide roadway resurfacing efforts.
