City to Activate Orange Flag Overnight Cooling Center on July 15

The City of Greensboro will activate an Orange Flag cooling center tonight in response to the extreme heat.

Operated by Greensboro Community Safety Department staff, the Orange Flag cooling center will be open 7 pm, Wednesday, July 15, to 7 am, Thursday, July 16, at the Interactive Resource Center, 407 E. Washington St. It is available to single adults and families.

Activation of the Orange Flag occurs on days when the forecast daytime temperatures and/or heat index reach 90 degrees or higher, and overnight temperatures are not expected to fall below 70 degrees.

July 15 is the 27th day that the City has activated the Orange Flag overnight cooling center since June 6.

Please note the daytime cooling stations and hydration station in Greensboro operate regardless of the Orange Flag status during the summer months. For more information on initiatives in place to support the Greensboro community during extreme heat, visit www.Greensboro-nc.gov/coolingservices.
