As a treasured symbol of Vermont's history, the monument requires careful stewardship. VDHP values public opinion as essential to this process; sessions will present technical data on the monument's condition and facilitate an open dialogue on various options for addressing restoration. This collaborative approach honors the soldiers of the Battle of Bennington, the monument's historical integrity, and the deep community value it embodies.

The Bennington Battle Monument is more than just stone and mortar; it is a cornerstone of our local and state identity," said Laura V. Trieschmann, Vermont State Historic Preservation Officer. "We are inviting the community to join us in shaping the future of this iconic treasure. These conversations are not just about a repair bill; they are about how we, as Vermonters, choose to honor our history in a way that is sustainable and meaningful for the next century."

All Vermonters are welcome to participate in this effort. VDHP will compile input from two spring meetings into technical findings. The resulting summary will be the focus of a final fall session. For those unable to attend, comments and suggestions are welcome via email at [email protected].
