ASPPH Chief External Relations and Advocacy Officer Tim Leshan was recently featured on the NewsNation video podcast Raising America, a weekly series hosted by Elizabeth Prann that brings together voices from across the political spectrum to discuss issues affecting families and communities nationwide. The podcast episode examined the politicization of public health, the role of government in shaping policies, and strategies to rebuild confidence through transparency and effective communication.

In the episode, Leshan joined Dr. David Margolius, Director of the Cleveland Department of Public Health; Republican strategist Corinne Clark; and business leader Nikki Bostwick for a thoughtful conversation on declining public trust in health agencies.

Representing ASPPH, Leshan highlighted our members' role in preparing the next generation of public health professionals and emphasized the importance of science- and evidence-based decision-making. He raised concerns about the risks posed by sudden disruptions to federal funding, particularly for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Prevention Research Centers, which advance vital research and community health initiatives.

Leshan also underscored that oversight is essential but must be conducted in a bipartisan manner, with a focus on effectiveness rather than partisanship. His contributions reinforced ASPPH's advocacy priorities: sustaining federal investment, ensuring transparency, and strengthening the nation's public health system.

By sharing ASPPH's perspective on this national platform, Leshan amplified the vital role of schools and programs of public health in rebuilding trust and advancing the health of all communities.
