DENVER - Today, Governor Polis and the Colorado Division of Insurance (DOI), part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), announced an open call for qualified individuals to apply to the Strengthen Colorado Homes Enterprise Board created by SB26-155, signed into law by Governor Polis last week.
The Strengthen Colorado Homes Enterprise will implement a grant program to help homeowners fortify their roofs against hailstorms, helping to save Coloradans money on homeowners insurance premiums.
"The high cost of homeowners insurance is driving up the cost of housing. Colorado is laser focused on lowering the cost of housing, and tackling high insurance costs. I recently set the bold goal to save Coloradans an average of $800 per year on homeowners insurance and increasing Coloradans' ability to protect our homes from hail and fire are an important want to drive down premiums for everyone. This board will play a big role in this work and I encourage all qualified individuals to join our efforts to save people money on homeowners insurance," said Governor Polis.
"Mitigation is the first line of defense we have against damage to our homes and rising premium costs, and this legislation will ensure that more Coloradans can afford to upgrade their roofs. We need qualified individuals to apply to the Enterprise Board to set up and run the grant program. If you meet the criteria, please do apply," said Colorado Insurance Commissioner Michael Conway.
The Enterprise will be governed by a seven member board that includes the Colorado Insurance Commissioner, experts in home hardening, and members to represent interests of insurers, consumers, and counties.
