On July 31, TÜV Rheinland launched its Native Gaming Performance Display Standard at the 23rd China Digital Entertainment Expo & Conference (ChinaJoy 2026). In collaboration with partners from across the display value chain, TÜV Rheinland also introduced the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative. The new standard establishes a dual-track evaluation framework that combines native esports performance verification with human-factors-based user experience assessment, helping provide a more comprehensive benchmark for esports displays based on both measurable performance and real-world gaming experience.
Moving Beyond Specifications toward Real Gaming Experience
As the esports display market continues to evolve, competition is shifting from individual hardware specifications toward overall user experience. Higher refresh rates and shorter stated response times remain important indicators, but they do not necessarily guarantee clearer visuals or more stable performance during gameplay. When advertised performance improvements rely on overclocking, specific operating modes or compromises that may affect image quality and system stability, the actual gaming experience may fall short of advertised claims. This highlights the industry's need for a rigorous and transparent evaluation framework that can assess both the authenticity of product specifications and the quality of the gaming experience delivered to users.

Through this framework and TÜV Rheinland certification marks, we aim to help consumers make informed purchasing decisions while supporting manufacturers in developing technologies that address real user needs."
Establishing a Dual-Track Framework Based on Authenticity, Accuracy and Detail
TÜV Rheinland's Native Gaming Performance Display Standard comprises two complementary certification systems: Native Gaming Performance and Comprehensive Human-Factors Gaming Experience.
The Native Gaming Performance Standard focuses on validating authentic performance. Through technical testing and documentation review, it verifies that advertised specifications are achieved through a display's inherent and sustainable capabilities rather than temporary enhancement methods such as overclocking. The standard clearly distinguishes among native performance, factory overclocking and dual-mode operating conditions, helping ensure that resolution, refresh rate and related performance claims are measurable, verifiable and traceable.
The Comprehensive Human-Factors Gaming Experience Standard focuses on accuracy and detail by combining objective testing with human factors research. It evaluates dynamic performance, image quality, and visual comfort across multiple gaming scenarios, including competitive games that require exceptional clarity and responsiveness, immersive titles that emphasize visual quality and atmosphere, and hybrid games that require a balanced overall experience.
By taking a multidimensional approach, the framework helps prevent individual headline specifications from overshadowing other important aspects of display performance, such as image quality, stability and visual comfort.
Building an Open Esports Display Experience Ecosystem
To promote broader adoption of standardized evaluation criteria, TÜV Rheinland joined industry stakeholders in launching the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative. The initiative aims to promote the application of human factors research and technical standards across the display ecosystem, including semiconductor design, panel manufacturing, product development, production, retail and consumer education.
Founding members of the initiative include organizations and enterprises representing key segments of the industry, including the China National Institute of Standardization, Lenovo Group, TCL CSOT, HKC Corporation Limited, BOE Technology Group Co., Ltd, ANTGAMER, TPV Technology Limited, Realtek Semiconductor, MediaTek Inc., Foxconn Technology Group Co., Ltd, and Wistron.
Together, TÜV Rheinland and its partners will work to establish a more transparent and unified framework for evaluating esports display performance and user experience.
Looking ahead, TÜV Rheinland will continue to apply human factors research and traceable testing methodologies to support innovation driven by genuine user needs. Under the Esports Display Experience Ecosystem Initiative, partners across the display value chain will promote the adoption of the new standard and certification framework.
Through the TÜV Rheinland Native Gaming Performance Certification Mark and Gaming Feature Verification Label, consumers will be better equipped to identify esports display products that deliver clear visuals, high image quality, stable performance and visual comfort. These efforts are intended to strengthen transparency, enhance consumer trust and support the high-quality development of the esports display industry.
