Washington, D.C. - Congressman Joe Wilson, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2027:
"Last night, I was grateful to have joined my Republican and Democrat colleagues in passing the FY27 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) -- legislation that advances the national security of America with Peace Through Strength, supports funding for critical missions in the district I represent and around South Carolina, and more.
"The bill included several provisions I advocated for such as securing the missions at Savannah River Site, continued support for defense research in universities in the Palmetto State, protecting Eisenhower Army Medical Center, and important amendments on foreign affairs issues, including those supporting the people of Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and the Republic of Georgia.
"As our adversaries become more emboldened, FY27 NDAA sends the message that the United States is and will be prepared for any hostile action that may be taken against our country and allies. With this legislation, our country will continue to expand its defense industrial base, increase pay for our soldiers, and provide the necessary equipment to safeguard the men and women of our military as they protect America.
"As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, I appreciate Chairman Mike Rogers and Ranking Member Adam Smith for their continued leadership and for shepherding the NDAA through committee, once again."
