GW Nursing Professor Received Prestigious National Social Justice Award

Yang was honored for his leadership in advancing health equity and social justice in public health.

Y. Tony Yang, an endowed professor of health policy at the George Washington University School of Nursing, has been honored with the 2025 Helen Rodriguez-Trias Social Justice Award from the American Public Health Association (APHA). The organization is one of the nation's most distinguished recognitions in public health.

The award celebrates individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to advancing social justice and health equity for underserved and marginalized populations. Named after the pioneering advocate and past APHA president, the award represents the highest standard of dedication to improving public health through advocacy, scholarship and community impact.

Yang's scholarship focuses on the impact of law and policy on healthcare delivery and population health outcomes. He is a member of the World Health Organization's Technical Advisory Group on clinical and policy considerations for new tuberculosis vaccines and serves as co-editor in chief of Health Policy and Technology, a peer-reviewed healthcare journal. Yang also serves on the AcademyHealth Education Council and the Board of Directors for the American Society of Law, Medicine and Ethics.
