New Ordinance Passes Effecting Electric Bikes, Scooters and Gas-Powered Bicycles

New Ordinance: Electric Bicycles, Scooters, and Gas-Powered Bicycles

In response to growing concerns about safety, traffic flow, and public space usage, the City Council has recently passed a new ordinance regulating the operation of electric bicycles, electric scooters, and gas-powered bicycles within city limits.

Here's what you need to know:

Electric and Gas-powered bicycles

  • ONLY allowed on City streets
  • MUST have lamps, reflectors, and brakes
  • MUST have a label containing classification, top assisted speed, and motor wattage
  • MUST obey rules of the road
  • Class 3 - must be 16 years of age or older

Low-speed electric scooters

  • Allowed on City streets and sidewalks
  • A device weighing 100 lbs., maximum speed is no more than 10 MPH
  • MUST have a label containing classification, top assisted speed, and motor wattage
  • MUST obey rules of the road
  • MUST be 18 years of age or older

10/01/2025 - 10/31/2025: Warning Period

11/01/2025: Enforcement Begins
