Flags Lowered in Honor of Dolly Parton

Mayor Lisa Brown has ordered flags at all City facilities to be lowered to half-staff to coincide with Governor Bob Ferguson's directive that state and U.S. flags at all state agency facilities be lowered in remembrance of Dolly Parton.
Dolly Parton was a country music legend, philanthropist, and advocate. She was known for her songwriting talents, writing hits like "Jolene," "9 to 5," and "I Will Always Love You." In addition to her legendary music career, Parton was a philanthropist, creating the Imagination Library program and gifting over 300 million books to children. She was an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and public health.
"From Eastern Washington to East Tennessee, Spokane sends its deepest condolences to all those who knew and loved Dolly Parton. She was one of a kind, and she will be missed," Mayor Lisa Brown said.
Flags will remain at half-staff until close of business on Tuesday, Sept 1. Mayor Brown encourages anyone with a flag outside of their home or business to join us in this recognition to honor her memory.
