DASNY President Robert Rodriguez Tours Queens College to Assess Major Campus Infrastructure Investments

Campus Projects to Transform Student Experience and Modernize Facilities at Flagship CUNY Institution

ALBANY, NY - DASNY President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez and Queens College President Frank H. Wu toured Queens College in Flushing earlier this week to review multiple ongoing infrastructure projects designed to enhance the student experience and modernize campus facilities.

DASNY, the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, is currently managing 21 active projects at Queens College, with projects in design, construction, and closeout phases totaling over $450 million. This substantial investment demonstrates DASNY's ongoing commitment to supporting colleges across the City University of New York (CUNY) system, where DASNY currently manages projects at nearly every CUNY campus.

"Queens College has served as an educational cornerstone for generations of New Yorkers, and our partnership - spanning over 30 years - ensures this legacy continues for decades to come," said DASNY President & CEO Robert J. Rodriguez. "DASNY is proud to support not just Queens College, but institutions across the CUNY system because we understand that investing in these colleges means investing in New York's future. The projects we're delivering at Queens College will create modern learning environments where students can excel academically while contributing to the vibrancy of southeastern Queens."

President Rodriguez noted that DASNY recently completed the $26.9 million Louis Armstrong Educational Center at Queens College, an 8,500 square foot visitor center featuring an exhibit area, gift shop, archive space, conference facilities, and an 80-seat auditorium that serves as a major enhancement to the college's cultural and educational outreach capabilities.

"It was deeply gratifying to welcome President Rodriguez to Queens College this week for a tour of the DASNY projects underway on our campus," said Queens College President Frank H. Wu. "It is evident that he shares our commitment to students through his stewardship of these extensive campus upgrades. This investment in our campus infrastructure, specialized study areas, HVAC systems, laboratories, and external renovations strengthens our mission of providing students with a high-quality, competitive education that comes from access to state-of-the-art facilities at an affordable cost."

The tour included visits to multiple project sites across the expansive campus, highlighting DASNY's comprehensive engagement:

  • Campus Utilities Infrastructure:The $78.2 million investment includes both boiler plant reconstruction with four new boilers and associated systems, and the second phase of campus-wide chiller plant upgrades featuring four new chillers and three cooling towers, providing enhanced heating and cooling across multiple academic buildings.
  • Razran Hall HVAC Modernization:The $39 million comprehensive upgrade of HVAC components throughout the building includes ductwork installation, ceiling and floor improvements, and control systems integration with commissioning activities currently in progress.
  • Speech-Language Pathology Program Return:The $9.5 million Gertz Hall renovation will welcome back the Speech-Language Pathology Graduate Program to campus in Fall 2026 after a four-year renovation process, featuring specialized therapy and observation rooms that will serve both students and the surrounding community.
  • Building Envelope Improvements:The $7.3 million Delany Hall project addresses roofing, exterior walls, windows, and doors to enhance energy efficiency and building performance across the campus.
  • Laboratory Modernization:The $7.2 million Science Building and Remsen Chemistry Labs project includes comprehensive renovation with specialized equipment, new fume hood exhaust systems, and complete infrastructure upgrades to support cutting-edge research and education.
