Governor Ayotte Proposes Cost Savings and Increased Transparency for the Governor and Executive Council

CONCORD, N.H. - Today, Governor Kelly Ayotte announced a plan to make the Governor and Executive Council process more efficient, effective, and transparent in serving the public. The Governor proposes digitizing the submission and review of documents to save taxpayers money and ensure State employees are maximizing their time serving the public. Searchable digital documents will also improve transparency and accessibility.

Announcing the changes, Governor Ayotte said, "When I first took office, I promised we would make our government more efficient and effective. By digitizing our Governor and Council process, we'll save millions of dollars, ensure our State Troopers and all State employees can focus on serving Granite Staters, and increase public access and transparency in this important part of our government."

Background: Cost Savings and Increased Transparency for the Governor and Council

Current Costs to Taxpayers:

  • Over $200,000 per year for printed materials.
    • 1.3 million pages printed per year.
  • 240 hours of State Trooper time hand-delivering documents - equivalent to six work weeks per year.
    • All while the State faces a shortage of 57 Troopers.
  • $3 million in taxpayer money spent over the last 10 years.

Benefits of a More Efficient and Effective Process:

  • Millions of dollars in projected savings for taxpayers.
  • Troopers can focus on public safety instead of document delivery.
  • Improved transparency through accessible, digital documents.
  • Reduce burdens on non-profits by streamlining unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • State employees can focus on serving Granite Staters, not printing millions of documents.
